Houston Astros Make Interesting Roster Move Ahead of Sunday Matchup Against Reds
Houston Astros right-hander Shawn Dubin was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, paving the way for a different pitching option as Dusty Baker and company aim to right the ship.
To make room for Dubin on the active roster, the Astros option right-handed pitcher Brandon Bielak back to the Space Cowboys.
Dubin, 27, has yet to appear in a Major League Baseball game while garnering a career Minor League record of 16-16 with a 4.30 ERA, 358 strikeouts and a 1.24 WHIP (276.0 innings pitched).
Over nine games (five starts) with Sugar Land this season, Dubin compiled an 0-2 record with a 7.96 ERA, 25 strikeouts and a 1.69 WHIP (26.0 innings pitched).
A 13th round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, Dubin has worked his way up the minor league ladder with high hopes of making his professional debut out of the Astros bullpen in the very near future.
Houston hosts the Cincinnati Reds (36-35) on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. CT at Minute Maid Park as the Astros looks to snap a three-game losing streak.
Right-hander Ronel Blanco (1-0, 3.86 ERA) takes the hill for Houston while Cincinnati counters with righty Luke Weaver (1-2, 6.23 ERA).
The Astros (39-32) are currently 4.5 games behind the first-place Texas Rangers (43-27) in the American League West, with the Los Angeles Angels (40-33) also nipping at their heels.
