Houston Astros Make Roster Move Ahead of Red Sox Series
The Houston Astros optioned pitcher Parker Mushinski on Monday and called up pitcher Seth Martinez from Triple-A Sugar Land, a move designed to give the bullpen a fresh arm going into their four-games series with the Boston Red Sox.
Mushinski (0-0, 4.73) has appeared in 12 games for the Astros, throwing 13.1 innings. He has struck out 14 and walked four, but batters are hitting .296 against him.
He last threw on Sunday against Seattle, as he gave up three hits and a run while retiring just one hitter.
He was called up on Aug. 12. Mushinski has been up and down with the Astros since he was activated from the injured list on May 22.
With Triple-A Sugar Land, Mushinski is 2-0 with a 2.74 ERA in 24 games, striking out 28 in 23 innings of relief. The Texas Tech product was a seventh-round pick in 2017 and made his MLB debut last season.
Martinez (2-3, 5.31) was optioned to Sugar Land on July 29. With the Astros he’s made 33 appearances this season, with 44 strikeouts and 18 walks in 40.2 innings.
With Sugar Land he didn’t factor in a decision in seven appearances and had a 2.57 ERA. He struck out nine in seven innings.
