Astros Hot Prospect To Get Promotion To Triple-A
A Houston Astros top prospect has reportedly earned a promotion to Triple-A Sugar Land, per MLB.com.
Joey Loperfido, an infielder and outfielder at Double-A Corpus Christi, will move up to the Astros’ top affiliate after a promotion during minor league baseball’s off-day on Monday.
MLB.com ranks Loperfido as the Astros’ No. 6 overall prospect. Those rankings were updated last week.
This will be the third different affiliate Loperfido has played for this season. His overall numbers have been impressive — .293/.383/.546/.929 with 20 home runs and 62 RBI.
He started the season at High Class-A Asheville, where he played in just eight games before he was promoted to Corpus Christi on April 20. He’s done the bulk of his time this season with the Hooks.
The left-handed hitting 24-year-old has also stolen 23 bases this season. He’s played all three outfield positions, along with first base and second base.
The Astros selected Loperfido in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Duke. At the time, the Astros assigned him to Class-A Fayetteville.
In 2022, between Fayetteville and Asheville, he batted .316/.408/.492/.900 with 12 home runs and 69 RBI.
