Is Houston Astros Rotation Just Fine Despite Injuries?
The Houston Astros received a much-needed off day Thursday and it will really be beneficial regarding their starting rotation.
The Astros can utilize a four-man rotation of Hunter Brown, Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier and Brandon Bielak on regular rest through Tuesday.
Beyond that, the Astros will likely need to add another starter.
This is good news for the Astros, who have been without Lance McCullers Jr. since the season started. They are also without Luis Garcia, who’s on the 15-day injured list with right elbow soreness.
In addition, Jose Urquidy is on the injured list with inflammation on his throwing shoulder.
The defending World Series champions should be able to survive for a while even with all these injuries to their pitchers.
Houston’s baseball operations department deserves a lot of credit for building a deep team, especially with pitching. Every team goes through a litany of injuries each season.
With Justin Verlander already lost to the New York Mets in free agency, the Astros are still in great shape. If they make another deep playoff run and ultimately capture another title, the pitching depth will be a big reason why.
