Houston Astros GM Sheds Light On Potential Offensive Trade Deadline Acquisitions
The Houston Astros will almost assuredly be active at this year's MLB trade deadline.
What or who they need to add has been a source of conversation for weeks, with many proposing the addition of pitching and/or another bat.
Over the weekend Astros general manager Dana Brown spoke with Sports Talk 790 AM about who he hopes the team will target come next month.
"...A left-handed bat would be exciting, but any bat that can hit both sides, that’s actually good too," said Brown. "In terms of position, if you can get a guy that can play multiple positions, that would be great. You could give some guys some time in the outfield, give the first baseman a day, give the DH a day. Having a guy that’s versatile — that would be ideal."
Essentially a left-handed utility player that can add versatility and offensive production to the lineup.
It is a one-size fits all approach to multiple issues Houston is currently facing. Whether it be Jose Abreu's lack of production at the plate, the offensive woes as a whole or adding depth to help keep injuries at bay by giving players extra rest when needed.
It's at least a plan for the Astros as we move closer to the trade deadline.
