Houston Astros Slugger Adamant He Will Be Ready For Opening Day
Houston Astros left fielder Yordan Álvarez says he's still planning on starting Opening Day according to MLB.com, despite his left hand soreness that has limited his practice during spring training. Álvarez took batting practice for the first time this spring on March 10 with no issues.
The slugger is adamant he should be ready to go for Opening Day despite the limited practice.
“I don't think it's a matter of how many at-bats [during spring]," Álvarez said. "It's just when I feel good and when I feel comfortable in the batter's box, I'm going to be OK. … It's been a little frustrating not being able to get into games the last couple of weeks, but thanks to God I feel good now and will start moving forward."
Álvarez has been fully participating in outfield and defensive drills according to Chandler Rome of The Houston Chronicle.
Opening Day is March 30 against the Chicago White Sox.
