The Houston Astros have one of, if not the most, talented roster in MLB heading into the 2023 season. With players such as former AL MVP Jose Altuve, perennial MVP candidate Alex Bregman, and 2022 World Series MVP Jeremy Peña, the list goes on.

One player that stands out among the rest right now is left fielder Yordan Álvarez. The slugging lefty finished third in American League MVP voting last season and he is slated to get even better.

OddsChecker has given Álvarez +1200 odds, or a 7.7-percent chance to win the award this season. That places him fifth in the current odds, two places lower than the position he finished last season.

Álvarez is coming off of an incredible season in which he slashed .306/.406/.613 with 37 home runs. By all accounts, Álvarez still has more left in the tank and he plans to take on a larger role in defense this season.

All of which will only further play into his case for the award during the 2023 MLB season.
