Houston Astros Still At a Loss on Alvarez Return Timeline
The good news is that Houston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez worked out another day in Houston as he continues to work his way back from injury.
The bad news is that the Astros still aren’t sure when Alvarez will report to Triple-A Sugar Land to start his rehab assignment.
Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters on Tuesday that the team is happy with his progress, but he didn’t put a timetable on the next step.
Alvarez was set to report to Sugar Land on Friday to start an injury rehab assignment with the Space Cowboys. But, an illness set him back. Astros general manager Dana Brown said on Sunday that Alvarez was dealing with a head cold. Brown also declined to say when Alvarez would start his rehab stint, saying only that he thought it would be “soon.”
Alvarez is one of several Astros that are trying to work their way back from injuries. But Houston misses his bat.
The 2022 American League Championship Series MVP was batting .277/.388/.589/.978 with 17 home runs and 55 RBI. The Astros placed Alvarez on the 10-day injured list with right oblique discomfort on June 9.
