Sitting two games back of the Texas Rangers in the AL West standings entering Friday, the Houston Astros will be clear buyers ahead of the August 1st trade deadline.

There's been a lot of rumors about what players they may be interested in acquiring, but one thing is for sure, their deadline plans are crystal clear.

First year general manager Dana Brown has made it well known that they want to buy starting pitching from teams looking to sell off their best assets.

The Astros have been linked to multiple players on the market, including the St. Louis Cardinals' ace who will be moved and the Detroit Tigers' All-Star generating tons of interest.

There's even a chance the front office would be interested in reuniting one of their old aces with the team for another playoff run.

Brown and the front office feel like this is the most important upgrade they can make. Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez are returning to the lineup from their injuries, will which should help the struggling offense that has not been able to put up numbers like in years past.

The current logjam of Houston outfielders provides them an opportunity to move some of those players and get the pitching they want.

However, one of their top targets was acquired by their divisional opponent Los Angels Angels for two young and good prospects, suggesting they might have to give up more than they would like.

Either way, the Astros will be aggressive at the trade deadline to carry out their plan of upgrading the pitching staff.
