When the Houston Astros underwent their complete teardown rebuilding process about a decade ago, it was a huge risk.

Losing tons of games year after year would certainly give them the best opportunity to select elite players at the top of the draft, but there is no given that they would turn into franchise changers.

However, the Astros were able to get future superstars into their organization and built a dynasty that is still operating today.

To do this, Houston was able to replace the elite players who departed their roster.

Gerrit Cole, George Springer and Carlos Correa lacing it up for different teams didn't hurt them as they won a World Series title after all three left.

But, the Astros are potentially facing a crisis as two more of their cornerstones are set to hit the open market in the next two years.

As of now, it doesn't seem like they are going to work out an extension with star third baseman Alex Bregman as no contract talks have directly occurred between the two parties.

Kyle Tucker will be a free agent after 2025, and while he's open to remaining in Houston, there has also been no movement towards keeping him with the team as of now.

This prompted Mark Polishuk of MLB Trade Rumors to say he thinks neither of them will re-sign with Houston and could bring an end to their "Golden Era."

"Feels like neither, to me. Bregman feels like he's leaving after the season, and unless Jim Crane modifies his six-year policy, Tucker also seems likely to depart," he wrote.

It will be interesting to see what their owner decides to do.

Things worked out before when they let their three previous stars walk in free agency after they found internal replacements for them, but losing two more blue chip players like Bregman and Tucker could be difficult to overcome.

Jim Crane did say as long as he's the owner, their championship window will be open.

He already showed a change in philosophy when signing Josh Hader to the most expensive contract he's ever handed a free agent.

If he's willing to make another change when it comes to extending his two current stars will be seen, but right now it's not looking too promising.
