In this story:

Jim McIngvale is continuing a tradition set in 2017 in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. McIngvale, better known as "Mattress Mack" bet $2 million on the Houston Astros to win the World Series in 2022.

McIngvale, owner of the Gallery Furniture retail stores, has done this before. It's a practically no-risk maneuver for the 71-year-old because of the store promotion he runs with the bet.

Any purchase at Gallery Furniture stores of over $3,000 comes with a full money-back guarantee if the Astros fail to win the World Series, but the free advertising and goodwill McIngvale receives with his bets total far more than his sunk costs.

Most famously, McIngvale made a similar bet in 2017 when the Astros finally did win their first World Series, perhaps the only time he has turned an over-the-table profit on his lavish sports bets.
