MLB App Glitch Pushes Notifications for Houston Astros Scores from 50 Years Ago
For multiple Astros fans across the globe, it appeared as though Houston's baseball team was busy playing numerous games on Monday, May 15.
Phone notifications began popping up on people's phones early Monday morning, and it turns out the scores were from the early 1970's -- with a score even popping up involving the Montreal Expos.
The EXPOS?
I mean, yes, I'm old enough to remember when Montreal had a baseball team, and even fondly remember collecting baseball cards from the Expos era of Major League Baseball.
But that was over 20 years ago, as the Expos franchise relocated to Washington, D.C. following the 2004 season and have been the Nationals for 19 years and counting.
The Astros score notifications were at the forefront of multiple social media memes and posts on Monday afternoon, with players from over 50 years ago being searched on Google and MLB archives.
Many fans on Facebook and Instagram, including the official Twitter feed for Houston's Single-A team, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, even replied to the posts and made Back to the Future jokes.
Although it was likely just a glitch due to updates on the Astros MLB At-Bat app, it gave Houston fans plenty to talk about on Monday morning.
Even if the scores were from before I was even born, there's nothing quite like America's Pastime.
Baseball has been around for 147 years and counting, so taking us back 50 years only briefly goes back into the sport's rich history.
We just didn't expect a MLB history lesson from the 1970's in 2023.
The Expos continued to trend on Monday night across social media sites, begging the question: could MLB return to Montreal?
I highly doubt it, but at least now the younger generation of baseball fans are caught up on some Expos history.
