Why are Houston Astros Sitting Altuve Again Against Cardinals?
The Houston Astros will leave second baseman Jose Altuve out of the lineup on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
It's the second game in a row he will not take the field. Considering his thumb injury that kept out for the first portion of the 2022 MLB season, anything out of the ordinary when it comes to his playing time can be concerning.
On Monday Altuve sat because it was a scheduled off day for the second baseman. However, a second day it's a bit abnormal.
According to the team, Altuve has been dealing with some soreness in his right heel.
It doesn't appear to be anything major at this point, but it is worth monitoring. It seems the team is rolling with caution in Altuve's case as to not continue aggravating anything.
Houston can't afford to lose anymore of its offensive firepower after losing Yordan Alvarez to an oblique injury and first baseman Jose Abreu's lack of production.
At the end of the day, it seems like it's just precaution to protect Altuve.
