Will Houston Astros Continue Surge Against Phillies Despite Injuries?
The Houston Astros have been dealing with a plethora of injuries to key players.
Yet they’ve managed to find ways to win.
After a sweep on the road against the Atlanta Braves, they traveled to Tampa, Fla., and took two of three from the red hot Rays.
Without Jose Altuve and Lance McCullers Jr., for every game and with other setbacks to Yordan Alvarez and Chas McCormick, the depth has been amazing.
Mauricio Dubon will enter this weekend’s series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a 20-game hitting streak. It’s the franchise’s longest since Hunter Pence produced 23 straight in 2011.
“These guys, the young guys especially, are rising to the occasion,” manager Dusty Baker said. “Now we have to continue to play well against everybody.”
Jeremy Pena, who scuffled at the plate early this season, went 8-for-24 on the six-game road trip.
Baker said Pena’s at-bats were “a great sign of things to come.”
This Houston team features plenty of depth and it’s showing. When the injured players return, the Astros will be even stronger.
It’s got to be scary for the rest of Major League Baseball.
