Baker Hoped For Added Veteran Pitcher After Verlander Left Astros
After Justin Verlander left for the New York Mets Dusy Baker believed the Houston Astros needed to add a veteran pitcher.
In this story:
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker was hoping that the club would add a veteran pitcher after Justin Verlander opted to sign with the New York Mets.
But the Astros did not make a move.
"You got to ask the powers that be," Baker told the Houston Chronicle. "I got the power, but not the authority. That was always a consideration for me … We didn't have a general manager in place in order to make that move."
After general manager James Click was relieved of his duties soon after the World Series title, the Astros didn't name a permanent GM until Dana Brown was hired in late January.
