Has Houston Astros Catcher Maldonado Turned the Corner Offensively?
Houston Astros fans already know Martín Maldonado is one of the best defensive catchers in Major League Baseball.
But Maldonado started the season off in an offensive slump, to put it nicely, before recently turning the corner at the plate.
Regardless of the dismal .183 batting average this year, over the past seven games Maldonado is slashing .217/.280/.391 with five hits, three RBI and one home run (prior to the game on Tuesday, May 16).
In fact, Houston's primary backstop went on an eight-game, eight hits streak through his start on May 12.
Has Maldonado truly turned the corner offensively?
Will he continue this recent uptick in production in his future starts?
One thing is certain: Maldonado is playing a whole lot better now than he was in April.
