The Houston Astros' American League West rivals the Texas Rangers released their Nike City Connect jersey's on Monday and they are not being received well by the fanbase.

While the franchise is scrambling to get Rangers fans onboard with a history lesson, here's my response:

I don't mean to be tacky, but then again I'm not the Rangers' jersey. Okay, maybe it isn't tacky, but it is bland, at the very least. And it seems to miss any pride the community may have in itself.

It's largely stale and to the untrained (or trained) eye it could be mistaken for a minor league team. But even then, not one from Arlington.

The dark blue pants are also not doing any favors as they appear almost black. Docked points for additional lack of expression.

More than anything it seems to lean on loose concepts and three minor league teams to drum up connection. It seems it may have been a difficult job to find culture in a city filled with parking lots and theme parks.

The region as a whole, however, has a rich culture available for connecting with. The stockyards and rodeo history, the State Fair of Texas and Big Tex. Bonnie and Clyde for Pete's sake.

Alright, shade thrown.

The Houston Astros, on the other hand, don't have to create lore to create a jersey. It's Houston, Space City, what a badge of honor. Behind that badge of honor is the even bigger reality that they are the reigning World Series Champions. I mean, enough said.

The Astros may be down in the first series, but the Silver Boot isn't over just yet. Plus, who is winning the jersey game?
