Some players would be distracted by the lack of a contract extension.

Not Kyle Tucker.

A first time All-Star last season, Tucker lost his arbitration case and was awarded $5 million for the 2023 season. The Houston Astros right fielder could very well earn a long-term deal at some point in the near future.

Even general manager Dana Brown has intimated that scenario is a possibility very soon.

For now, all Tucker can do is continue to perform.

Tucker sure seems motivated.

Even with the contract distraction, he’s focused on joining a rare club this season – the 30-30 club.

“Yeah I mean (the 30-30 club) is definitely there and definitely possible," Tucker told the Houston Chronicle. "It sometimes depends on the opportunities to run, if it’s the right time in the game to run. But if I can get there, that would be great."

Tucker was the lone player in Major League Baseball to produce 30 home runs and 25 stolen bases. Oh, and he added a Gold Glove.

Tucker is coming off a strong season as he hit .257 with 107 RBI. He added two more home runs in the World Series.

It’s clear that Tucker is able to focus on the task at hand on the field no matter the pressure.

“I try to stay the same player, do what (manager) Dusty (Baker) and my team needs," Tucker said. "Do that and the rest takes care of itself."

That’s the right attitude.

It worked for Tucker last season and it will work again.

If he keeps putting up these numbers, the mega deal will certainly come his way. And it will have been earned.
