In this story:

Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa returned to his old stomping grounds on Memorial Day where he faced the Houston Astros, his former team.

Correa was met with a loud shower of boos from the Minute Maid Park fans, serenading his homecoming.

But it begs the question: Should Correa have been boo'd in the first place?

The shortstop was part of the core group of players that brought the Astros into contention and back into relevance. That culminated with a World Series championship in 2017.

Correa then left in free agency after the 2021 MLB season for the Twins, Houston reportedly was unable or unwilling to match his three-year, $105.3 million deal that boasted multiple opt-outs at the time.

One has to imagine that if the Astros were to have offered a similar deal that Correa would have remained in Houston.

So, why the boos?

In essence, many fans see Correa as a "traitor" someone they believed was an Astro through and through. Then he left for greener pastures.

It's an interesting line of thinking. MLB players, specifically, regularly follow the money. Usually in order to capitalize on the small window they have to make money in their careers.

In Correa's case, it was his first shot at making a real payday, the club he came up with was unable to match the offer, and Correa made the business decision to leave.

Still, his efforts helped bring the first World Series championship to the city of Houston. He helped usher in a new era of baseball and was a part of what has now become one of the most fearsome dynasties in the sport.

Please stop the booing.
