Monday, a holiday, will be the only day for public comment

After the Oakland A's introduced the bill to try and secure funding for the team's potential relocation to Las Vegas on Friday night at 8:30 p.m., the bill will now have a joint hearing with the Senate Finance and Assembly Ways and Means Committees on Monday, per David Calvert of the Nevada Independent.

From the outside, it looks really shady that the A's would introduce this bill at the last possible hour on the verge of a three-day weekend, and it's even more suspicious that there will only be one hearing on the topic--and it'll occur on a holiday.

That said, Mueller, who follows this for a living, says that sometimes they do a joint hearing on big bills like this because it's faster. With the time crunch of June 5th looming to get everything done before the end of the legislative session, time is of the essence.

The meeting is set to begin at 4 p.m. and will also be the public's only chance to have their voices heard in this process, which is expected to take quite awhile. If you're a Nevada resident that would like their voice heard, you can find the link to do so here.

So what does this mean for the timeline of the project?

After Monday's hearing, the bill will still need to pass out of both committees. That is the first hurdle. Then, the bill would need to pass through the Senate and Assembly before it lands on the desk of Governor Joe Lombardo for a signature. Lombardo is a supporter of the project, so if the bill makes it to him, he's signing.

This is a big week for A's fans in Oakland, as the fate of their beloved team could very well be decided. If there is any stalling done which would lead to a special session being required, then the June 13 reverse boycott that A's fans are planning could have a different vibe, as fans are trying to convince ownership and MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred that there are fans in Oakland, and that they'll show up if they stop getting treated so poorly.
