A's Las Vegas Renderings Coming Soon
The Oakland A's will reportedly be releasing their updated renderings on Monday, December 4 as part of a big announcement, according to LV Sports Biz. They also say that among those in attendance will be major Southern Nevada officials and the A's architect for their Vegas ballpark, Bjarke Ingels.
A's owner John Fisher will be in attendance as well, marking his first public appearance in Las Vegas.
For many fans in Oakland, Fisher's recent appearances are just baffling. This guy couldn't be bothered to make a single public appearance in Oakland for 18 years, but all of a sudden is a social butterfly. This, while also claiming that he did "everything he could" to keep the A's in Oakland. Everything besides leaving his ivory tower or paying more of his own money for the project, that is.
The meeting is apparently scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be right in the middle of MLB's Winter Meetings. That timing is extremely interesting given how everything has gone with the A's relocation process. Not only did A's fans hijack the All Star Game by getting fans in Seattle to chant "Sell the Team!" but they also infiltrated a number of ballparks around the country with the same chant in the second half of the season, making a lot of headlines that weren't the most flattering for Major League Baseball.
The Winter Meetings are a time for other fan bases to get excited about what their club is doing to make themselves better in 2024 and beyond. Which free agents are they connected to? Which players have they signed? How is the roster coming together? There is also the big question this year of where Shohei Ohtani will end up signing.
And then you have John Fisher and the A's taking away from those headlines, from that hype, from those good feelings surrounding the game. Sure, the renderings will get a lot of coverage and the Winter Meetings are a big week for baseball headlines, but the A's renderings will get covered no matter when they happen.
For John Fisher's sake, these better be immaculate (and on nine acres this time) depictions of a state-of-the-art facility that is worthy of being in Las Vegas. MLB is taking a period of time, arguably the last time that baseball will be in the news so heavily until Spring Training, and handing the reins to John Fisher.
This should be interesting.
