Oakland Ballers Sign Right-Hander
The Oakland Ballers (a.k.a. B's) have announced their latest signing in right-handed pitcher Jake Dahle (pronounced Dally) for the 2024 season. He will be 25 by the time the Ballers make their home debut in June.
Dahle split his college career between University of Utah, College of Southern Idaho, and Utah Tech (formerly known as Dixie State) and held a combined 7.93 ERA in 101 innings across three seasons.
This past summer he participated in the MLB Draft League with Ballers coach Ray King as a member Mahoning Valley Scrappers. There, he held a 4.08 ERA in 17 2/3 innings and pitched solely out of the bullpen after being used as both a starter and a reliever in college.
He finished the MLB Draft League with 26 hits allowed in those 17 2/3 innings, while walking 12 and striking out 15, giving him a WHIP of 2.151. Limiting the number of baserunners will be a big key to his success in 2024.
The Ballers will be holding open tryouts in Florida, Arizona, and one locally. The tryout in Davenport, Florida will be held from February 9-11, while the one in Scottsdale, Arizona will be from April 16-18. The local tryout will have more details at a later date.
The B's also have gear available at Oaklandish, with t-shirts and hoodies in black and green. Green snapback hats are available for pre-order at this time, but there is a new crop of black snapbacks that are currently in stock. Oaklandish expects to have fitted hats at some point soon, too.
You may have also heard that the Ballers had planned to play a game at the Oakland Coliseum this summer, but had those plans nixed by the A's. By rejecting the Ballers, the A's may have inadvertently admitted that Oakland is a viable market for baseball.
