Oakland's New Baseball Team
Baseball in Oakland will not be going away. Yes, the A's are still more than likely headed to Las Vegas, but there is an ownership group out there that believes the fans in Oakland are worth serving.
As of 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the Oakland Ballers, the newest team in the Pioneer League has launched. They will also be known as the Oakland B's. The team's founders, Paul Freedman and Bryan Carmel, will be joined by Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, Oakland Council President Nikki Bas, U.S. Congressional Candidate Lateefah Simon, Laney College Athletic Director John Beam, Oakland artist Mistah F.A.B., and founder of the Oakland 68’s Jorge Leon at a press conference announcing the team’s launch at Laney College at 11AM PST on Tuesday 11/28.
The team is currently working with Laney College to play their first season there. Longtime A's fans may remember a time when John Fisher and Dave Kaval wanted to build a new ballpark at Laney College, but instead of seeing if the site was available or working with them at all, they just went ahead and announced that it was happening. This is already a step in the right direction for baseball fans in Oakland and provides hope for a new era for The Town.
Some cool additions to the franchise is that there will be a Fan Bill of Rights, relationships with former A's players, and much like the Oakland Roots and Soul, starting today anyone can be an owner of the team during their initial fundraising push. There has not been a link provided on that front, but there will be plenty to cover on the newest baseball franchise in Oakland in the coming days and weeks, and that link will be included in those posts, and on social media.
In the meantime, here is a hype video for the launch of the Oakland B's, with appearances from Jorge Leon, Mistah F.A.B., Casey Pratt, and many more!
