A's Sign Former New York Mets Pitcher
The Oakland A's have come to terms on a minor-league contract with former New York Mets farmhand Dylan Hall, per Jessica Kleinshcmidt. He had signed with the Mets as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 MLB Draft, which only lasted five rounds.
Hall, 26, is a right-hander that made 36 appearances out of the bullpen across three different levels in the Mets system last year, including two short stints at Triple-A Syracuse. Hall split most of his time with High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton and put up a cumulative 3.10 ERA in 52 1/3 innings.
According to Brooks Baseball, Hall's fastball sat at 90.86 miles per hour, but he would mix in a slider, change, and curveball as well.
Given that Hall spent most of the season between Double and High-A, it's within reason that he'll begin this year with the Midland RockHounds, the A's Double-A affiliate, but could move quickly through the A's system as the team searches for pieces at every level.
Hall is now the third former New York Mets reliever the A's have acquired this winter, joining Vinny Nitoli and Anthony Kay. Nitoli is a non-roster invitee with the A's this spring, while Kay ended up signing with the Yokohama BayStars in the NPB.
The A's bullpen is currently filled with options that the team hopes can provide an upgrade over 2023, including the addition of top prospect Mason Miller to the relief corps. The one worry is the injury history of many of the players in the 'pen. Sean Newcomb has had surgery on each of his knees since he last pitched for the A's in September. Zach Jackson and Dany Jiménez have each missed chunks of time the past two seasons, too. Miller even has his own injury history, which is what led to him landing in the bullpen.
By the time the trade deadline passes, there may be a spot open in the bullpen for one of the former Mets relievers to make their mark in Oakland.
