The Blue Jays made a roster move before their game versus the Rangers Monday, activating reliever Erik Swanson off the 15-day IL.

Right-hander Jay Jackson was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

Swanson hit the IL on August 27 with thoracic spine inflammation but needed just the minimum 15 days. The righty tossed in a rehab appearance Sept. 9 and felt good enough to return. He'll now assume late-inning set-up duties in the bullpen alongside Jordan Hicks and Tim Mayza.

The time off should serve Swanson well, as the 29-year-old has now tied a career-high innings load (58.0) this season.
