The roster trimming has begun.

The Blue Jays made a first round of Spring Training cuts on Monday, announcing 12 players have been optioned or assigned to minor-league camp. The group includes top pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann and young slugger Orelvis Martinez.

The Jays joined many teams in making a first round of camp cuts early this week, working toward the 26-man roster that will break spring and head to St. Louis for 2023 Opening Day on March 30th.

The complete list of Monday's roster moves includes:

  • LHP Jimmy Burnette
  • OF Cam Eden
  • RHP Hayden Juenger
  • C Jamie Ritchie
  • RHP Sem Robberse
  • LHP Jimmy Robbins
  • LHP Ricky Tiedemann
  • RHP Hagen Danner
  • INF Spencer Horwitz
  • INF Leonardo Jimenez
  • INF Orelvis Martinez
  • RHP Yosver Zulueta

Danner, Horwitz, Jimenez, Martinez, and Zulueta are all on Toronto's 40-man roster, meaning they will burn a minor-league option year when reassigned. All 12 players can still participate in Grapefruit League games with the Blue Jays throughout the spring, despite joining minors camp.

Toronto still has 55 players in MLB camp, including 20 non-roster invitees.
