Blue Jays and Yankees Trade Words In 'Sign Stealing' Saga

Both the Yankees and Blue Jays have been in contact with MLB after Monday night's game in Toronto.

Aaron Judge's darting eyes remained the story of the day on Tuesday.

A night after the Bronx bomber drew accusations of sign stealing, Blue Jays manager John Schneider and Yankees skipper Aaron Boone fielded questions about the saga ahead of Tuesday night's game, outlining two different accounts of the events.

The controversy stems from clips of the Yankee outfielder seemingly glancing to the right immediately before hitting a homer in Monday's game. Judge's eye movements were picked up by Toronto's television broadcast, but the Yankee said he was simply  "trying to see who was chirping in the dugout" after the contest.

Toronto's manager, Schneider, said it was "kind of odd that a hitter would be looking in that direction," after Monday's Blue Jays loss. He reiterated his claim that Judge's glances were "odd" on Tuesday and said the Blue Jays had contacted Major League Baseball about monitoring New York's actions moving forward.

Schneider's biggest concern seemed with the positioning of New York's base coaches, implying New York's first and third base coaches may have been drifting outside of their allocated boxes to pick up information to help the batters.

"I think that there’s boxes on the field for a reason," Schneider said.

The Yankees have also been in contact with the league, Boone said, and the New York manager didn't believe any investigation would arise.

“Nothing that went on last night was against the rules,” Aaron Boone said, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Judge was a bit less political, saying he had "some choice words" for Sportsnet broadcasters Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez, who pointed out the potential sign stealing on air.

 “I’m not happy about it, but people can say what they want," Judge told Hoch. "I’ve still got a game to play. I’ve got things to do.”
