Ranking the Braves "Flying to the All-Star Game" fits
On the field all the Atlanta Braves dress in the same uniform, for the most part, but off the field, you have a chance to show some personality in how you dress.
The Braves loaded up eight players and their families last night to fly from Tampa, where they just finished winning the series against the Rays, to Seattle for the 2023 All-Star Game. The Braves social media accounts shared the shots of the happy families on the tarmac before boarding, and we want to talk about it.
#1: RHP Spencer Strider
Stride or die, baby. Look at this drip - the aviators, the small dot print on the shirt, the mustache, inside-out watch with the band that matches the NOT-solid white shoes. Those shoes have some sort of paisley-ish pattern, which I'm normally not into, but it works here. This is a man that knows what he's about.
Grade: 10/10, no notes.
#2: 2B Ozzie Albies
Simplicity. Ozzie Albies is a simple man, one of the people. Black shirt, black pants, black backpack/jacket, and just enough accessorizing with his trademark chain and the cheetah-print sneakers.
(We're not evaluating families or kids, but I do love how the cheetah spreads to the family with both his daughter and mother also sporting variations of the print)
Grade: 9/10 - feels like one chain instead of two would have been perfect.
#3: OF Ronald Acuña Jr
If you think Ozzie's fit was minimalist, let's talk about Ronnie: black joggers, a black hoodie, black backpack, and white sneakers. Simple, which makes sense, as he's flashy enough. His multi-colored hair and the visible tattoos do enough to accessorize the look.
(again, we're not grading family in this, but THOSE LITTLE RED NIKES - would have been worth an extra point if we were)
Grade: 8/10 - maybe some different texture to the pants would bring this up a point, but it's a pretty solid athleisure fit suitable for a cross-country flight.
#4: 1B Matt Olson
Our Tall King keeps it simple: Dark pants, micro-dot print on the S/S button down, and white shoes.
Grade: 7/10 - it's maybe a little TOO simple? I'd love to see something - a cool pair of shades, something.
#5: SS Orlando Arcia
It's basic but it works - again with a dark fit, with joggers and a hoodie. This one's team branded, so points for that, but the cross-body bag counteracts that and pushes Orlando down the board a bit. Bright white undershirt is a bit much,, but might just be a function of the pose.
(Again, not grading families, but the TWINS would have added the fierce points if we were)
Grade: 6/10
#6 (T): 3B Austin Riley
Hey look, no athleisure! Austin's rocking a tasteful pair of dad jeans, a nice polo, and a non-Apple smartwatch.
Here's the thing - let's talk about these shoes. I appreciate it's not the white sneakers, but... what are they? They look like they're trying to be leather sneakers, but the inside zip and going up the calf makes it look like some sort of Chelsea boot hybrid thing. Honestly, I expect Austin to be a cowboy boot kinda guy, so this is surprising.
Grade: 4/10, almost entirely from the shoes. Gotta pick a lane, Austin.
#6 (T): C Sean Murphy
Simple, but there's some clashing going on here. Black jeans, with fades, combined with navy Grand Courts and the mid-tier blue flowered shirt is just a bit too much clashing. If the shirt was a bit darker, or the jeans were navy instead of black, he'd probably be 3rd on this list.
Grade: 4/10. Get my man some shades.
#8: RHP Bryce Elder
Oh, Bryce.
Okay, let's start with the good: Clean shoes. Look generic, honestly, but white and clean. Pants are fine, I guess - going for the athleisure look, but joggers would have done more than the golf pants these are. And it's a black backpack, which is fine. Honestly didn't even know that Yeti made backpacks, but sure, okay.
But the shirt. I'm reminded of shopping mall food courts, but like, the weird ceramic mosaic tile they had on that curved wall before you get to the bathrooms. It's loud, and just doesn't feel like it works for Bryce.
Grade: 3/10. Get my man a nice fitted polo and he's immediately top half of this list.
We're doing this again, right?
Oh you know it. There's a Red Carpet show on Tuesday before the All-Star Game, and we're going to be all over it.
