Braves announce minor league coaching staffs for 2024
The Atlanta Braves have announced their minor league coaching staffs for the 2024 season, and all four affiliates are getting new managers this year.
After Triple-A Gwinnett's manager Matt Tuiasosopo was promoted to 3rd base coach on Atlanta skipper Brian Snitker's staff to replace the departed Ron Washington, several managers are moving up into new affiliates.
Triple-A Gwinnett will be helmed by Kanekoa Texeira, who has spent the last three seasons managing either Double-A Mississippi or High-A Rome. Joining Texeira will be Wigberto Nevarez, who was with Gwinnett for the last three seasons, as well as pitching coaches Kevin McAvoy & Mike McCarthy and hitting coach Dan DeMent.
Texeira, who pitched for Gwinnett during his playing days, is the 2nd former Stripers player to helm Gwinnett, after Tuiasosopo.
For Double-A Mississippi, Angel Flores moves up from High-A Rome to manage the affiliate for their last season in Pearl. He'll be joined by pitching coach Wes Johnson, hitting coach Garrett Wilkinson, and coaches Francisco Díaz and Luis ugueto. All four coaches were part of the Braves organization last season, but all at lower levels than Mississippi.
Continuing the promotions up a level, the High-A Rome Emperors will be helmed by Cody Gabella, Single-A Augusta's manager in 2023. Mike Steed returns to Rome as the pitching coach, while Double-A Mississippi's hitting coach Danny Santiesteban moves to Rome for 2024.
Single-A Augusta gets a new manager, with former player Wynston Sawyer getting his first skipper job after coaching with the FCL Braves last season. He'll be joined by FCL Braves colleagues Elvin Nina (pitching coach) and Einar Díaz (hitting coach), as well as Connor Justus.
