The Atlanta Braves Farm System Is Not Ranked Very High by MLB

The Atlanta Braves farm system did not get a lot of love from MLB Pipeline's rankings.

The Atlanta Braves are in win now mode at the major league level.

The focus for Atlanta is to win now and the way the minor league system is set up seems intentional, despite how national media views the Braves' minor league system.

The team at MLB Pipeline ranked Atlanta's farm system as the 26th overall system in baseball. The Braves ranked ahead of the Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, and Los Angeles Angels.

"Competing annually atop the NL East and deep into October makes it challenging to maintain a super-deep farm system," the team at MLB.com wrote. "But the Braves do keep getting guys to the big leagues and the farm system keeps supplying trade chips to keep the good times rolling in Atlanta. The top of this system is very arm heavy, with the pair of Top 100 pitchers who should impact the Major League staff in 2024. Ten of the top 15 (including all of the top 5) are hurlers."

Atlanta's top 100 prosepcts are both pitchers. AJ Smith-Shawver is ranked as the 69th best prospect and Hurston Waldrep is ranked as the 90th prospect in all of baseball.

The Braves' system lacks a lot from the position players, but it's hard to look at Atlanta's current situation and see a need of position players in the next few years. With the core group of Atlanta's lineup all under contract for the next few seasons, the Braves should have time to bolster that side of their system when that time comes.
