Takeaways: Atlanta Braves fall 5-3, get swept by the Boston Red Sox

The two-game series in Boston did not go well for Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves looked to avoid the two-game series sweep against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday night and despite a solid first six innings from Spencer Strider and a three-run homer from Ozzie Albies, Atlanta fell 5-3 Wednesday night.

Here are some takeaways from the action.

Boston got to Atlanta's pitching in the seventh inning

Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

Everything was going well for Atlanta pitcher Spencer Strider until Boston took over the game in the seventh. He was pulled for the newly acquired Peirce Johnson.

His 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched were electric and fueled a pitcher's duel for most of the ball game but would eventually give up two home runs against a Boston offense that seems to be rounding into form.

Johnson was not able to work out of a jam and gave up the lead due to a double off the Green Monster by Justin Turner, and the Red Sox would go up 4-3.

Ozzie Albies keeps collecting RBIs

Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

A three-run home run by Ozzie Albies broke the scoring drought for both teams in the sixth inning and gave Atlanta a 3-0 lead. Albies would also knock down a single on his next trip to the plate.

His three RBIs from Wednesday night bring his season total to 72, good for eight in all of baseball. Braves first baseman Matt Olson is tied for first in the MLB with 80 RBIs on the season.

Post-All-Star Break has not gone well

Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

Sure Atlanta won a series against the Brewers last week, but the Braves have gone 4-7 since the All-Star Break. The great news is that Atlanta built such a strong lead in the first half of the season is that a slump like this won't hurt their season as much as it could other teams throughout the National League but things need to get cleaned up if they want to play at the level they have been playing for most of the summer.

What's next for the Atlanta Braves
