Charlie Morton should see improvement this season

Charlie Morton is expected to perform better for the Atlanta Braves.

This could be a bounce-back season for Atlanta braves pitcher Charlie Morton.

Morton will look to help bolster a staff led by Max Fried, Spencer Strider, and Kyle Wright to look to repeat what the Braves did on the mound last season.

Atlanta's pitching is projected to see some regression from a year ago due to their solid production in 2022 but Morton is expected to be better in 2023 than he was a year ago.

"The one candidate that could improve in 2023 is Charlie Morton," Jake Mastroianni said on Locked On braves. "Obviously, Morton had a down year for himself last season, He is gettin up there in age. Perhaps it's just Father Time getting to him."

In 2022, the 39-year-old Morton had a 4.34 ERA, and a 1.23 WHIP, and touted a 9-6 record for Atlanta.

FanGraphs predicts Morton to have a 3.81 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.

"I think it could go even lower than that," Mastroianni said on Morton's ERA projection. "That just goes to show you how it was a bit unusual year for Charlie Morton. He struggled with the command coming off surgery and really had trouble staying consistent. Hopefully, we will see a more consistent Charlie Morton. But this was the one pitching candidate that you could point to and say that this player has a good chance of being better in 2023 than 2022."
