What is the next record the Braves could break?
Records are made to be broken. The Atlanta Braves are breaking records left and right this season. Individual records and team records. Acuna has the first 40 homer and 70 steal season in MLB history and Matt Olson broke the single-season record for homers and RBI.
So what is the next record the Braves could surpass? To the surprise of no one, it's the single-season home run record for a team. The 2019 Minnesota Twins currently hold the record with 307 total homers. Let's take a look at that team. They were led by Nelson Cruz who had 41 homers. They were the first team in MLB history to have eight hitters hit more than 20 homers in a season. Cruz (41), Kepler (36), Sano (34), Rosario (32), Garver (31), Cron (25), Shoop (23), and Polanco (22).
The 2023 Atlanta Braves have 304 total homers after tonight's win over the Chicago Cubs. The Braves are four homers away from breaking the record and there are still three games left in the regular season. Atlanta currently has seven players with over 20 homers. Olson (54), Acuna (41), Ozuna (37), Riley (37), Albies (33), Murphy (21), and Rosario (21). There is a possibility the Braves could break the Twins record of eight players with more than 20 homers in a season as well. Michael Harris (18) and Orlando Arcia (17) are knocking on the door of breaking that record as well.
So there you have it. The Braves have at least two more records they could break before the end of the season. A deep playoff run would increase those chances as well.
