Takeaways: The Braves finish off the sweep by beating the Brewers 8-6
Get the brooms out, folks!
The Braves completed the sweep of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers to get their 67th win of the 2023 season.
Lots of deep and hard contact led to this victory over a solid Brewers team.
What can we take away from this 8-6 win over the Milwaukee Brewers?
The Braves his four homers
The Braves hit four homers in their win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Each run the Braves scored came from a home run which you don't see every day. Sometimes the long ball is able to win you some ball games, and that was the case for the Braves in this contest. Matt Olson has two of the four bombs, while Marcell Ozuna and Austin Riley each had one. The power came to play for the Braves in this ball game.
The Braves responded each time the Brewers scored
A big part of baseball is responding when the other team scores. The Braves did that leading to this win in this game. The Brewers scored in three different innings, and in each of these innings, the Braves also scored. Doing this keeps the ball club, and fans engaged in the game, and the Braves did this to perfection in this game. Little things like this win ball games, and the Braves were able to get it done against the Brewers.
AJ Smith-Shawver didn't fill up the zone
AJ Smith-Shawver did enough for the Braves to get the win but made some mistakes. Wild pitches led to a run and a runner moving over to scoring position in this ball game, which you can't have happen. Smith-Shawver also walked four batters in five innings of work, which is a number that needs to be cut down. He threw 93 pitches, with only 49 being strikes. Smith-Shawver needs to fill up the zone. If he does that, he can be good for the Braves.
Raisel Iglesias slammed the door
Raisel Iglesias has been shaky at times for the Braves this season but was dominant getting the save in this ball game. He faced the minimum while striking out the side to close out this ball game. The Braves need Iglesias to pitch like he did in this ball game if they want to make a World Series run.
What's Next?
The homestand will continue as the Braves host Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels. The Halos have been playing some good ball of late and made some significant trades, so this should be a fun series. Hopefully, the Braves are able to continue winning series and, in doing so, send the Angels back to L.A. unhappy. The first game of the series with the Angels will be played at 6:20 ct on Monday. This game can be watched on ESPN+.
