Takeaways: The Braves salvage the series with a 4-2 win over the A's

The Braves take the series finale in Oakland 4-2.

The Braves were able to salvage a win in Oakland, beating the A's 4-2.

Timely hitting and solid pitching helped the Braves get this win over the Athletics.

This is a series you hate to lose, but being able to steal the finale has to take away a little bit of the bitter taste.

The Mets are quickly approaching in the standings, so the Braves need to kick it into high gear and fast.

What can we take away from this 4-2 win over the Athletics?

Jared Shuster had a solid outing

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Jared Shuster had a solid outing going 5.1 innings, only allowing two runs and striking out one. The outing was enough to get the win, but there was a lot to clean up for the lefty. Shuster threw 68 pitches and only 39 strikes. This led to four walks, one of which came around to score a run. The young left needs to fill up the zone a bit more, but besides that, the outing was just fine. The stuff is nasty - if Shuster can locate more, he will be a stud in the league.

Raisel Iglesias had a bounce back performance

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Raisel Iglesias had a rough outing a night agom but bounced back well in the series finale with the Athletics. Iglesias came into the game with a two-run lead and got three outs on six pitches with all of them being strikes. This has to make the staff feel better, knowing he walked three batters while only recording one out the night before. If Iglesias can be nails this season, it will help this ball club a ton.

Orlando Arcia set the table well

Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

Orlando Arcia had a big night at the dish going 3-3 with three singles. With him batting eighth in the order, you love Arica getting on because this sets the table for the mashers. That was the case in this game, and he scored twice for the Braves. If the bottom of the order can produce like this, it will help the top of the order drive in more runs, and the Braves will win more ball games.

What's next?

The Braves have an off day on June 1st but will then face the Arizona Diamondbacks at 8:40 pm ct. Charlie Morton will get the start for the Braves, looking for his sixth win of the season.
