POSTPONED: Atlanta and Philadelphia set to make up game in September

Due to weather, the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies will make up the game in September. They'll wrap up the series Thursday afternoon.

There will be no Atlanta Braves baseball Wednesday night.

The second game of the three-game series between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies was not able to be played Wednesday night due to inclement weather but will be made up in September, the next time the Braves and Phillies meet. Thursday afternoon's game is scheduled to be played as normal.

The action will start at 1:05 ET, the original time of what would have been game three of the series.

Wednesday night's game was originally postponed and was given a new first pitch time of 7:15 according to the Philadelphia Phillies Twitter account. That of course didn't happen as the weather showed no signs of slowing down.

The game will be played as part of a doubleheader on September 11.

Tomorrow, it's expected the Atlanta Braves will send top prospect AJ Smith-Shawver to the mound. 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA on the season, Smith-Shawver has pitched 13.1 innings across three appearances (two starts) with eleven strikeouts to four walks. He's (obviously) never faced Philadelphia, and no member of their roster has a plate appearance has an at-bat against him in either the majors or the minors.

UPDATE: Per Justin Toscano of the AJC, Atlanta's changing the rotation and throwing Bryce Elder on Thursday, with AJ Smith-Shawver getting the start on Friday in Cincinnati.

Opposing the Braves will be longtime foe Aaron Nola. The righty is 6-5 with a 4.66 ERA on the season, having struck out ninety-three batters in his ninety-four innings of work. A season after leading the National League with only 1.3 walks per nine innings (twenty-nine on the season), he's already walked twenty-four (a 2.3 BB/9) while seeing his strikeouts per nine innings drop by 1.5 and his ERA increase by more than a run.

Many Braves have hit Nola well, with five projected starters having batting averages of .245 or better and three players, Ronald Acuña Jr (4), Marcell Ozuna (4), and Austin Riley (5) having taken him deep four or more times in their careers.

On Thursday, the game broadcast with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin is available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports South and is available on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
