Takeaways: Spencer Strider leads Atlanta to game one win vs Miami

Another gem by Spencer Strider puts Atlanta in the win column.

After losing four straight, the Atlanta Braves were in good hands with Spencer Strider on the mound.

Thanks to an 11-0 beatdown against the Miami Marlins Monday night, the Atlanta Braves improve to 15-8 on the season.

Spencer Strider's 2023 continues to be special

Spencer Strider was close to perfect Monday night. In 8.0 innings, he allowed just two hits, and struck out 13 Marlins.

Strider has struck out at least nine batters in each of his last nine starts, dating to last year. This streak is the longest active streak in all of baseball of at least nine strikeouts and surpasses John Smoltz's Braves-record run of such starts set in 1997.

Atlanta relied on the deep ball

Catcher Sean Murphy added his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot that gave Atlanta the first lead of the night. Ever since hitting the walk-off shot against the Cincinnati Reds (his first homer as a Brave), he hit six home runs over a span of just 38 at-bats. The 430-foot missile from Murphy could be a normal sight moving forward.

Sam Hilliard rocked his second and third home runs of the season. They were both solo shots.

Eddie Rosario went long for the second time this season, a shot to center field that scored two and gave Atlanta a five-run lead.

Austin Riley added another longball in the 6th inning, staking Spencer Strider to a 8-0 lead.

Is Sam Hilliard an everyday starter moving forward?

With word that Michael Harris is making his way back off of the IL soon, is Sam Hilliard the answer that Atlanta has been looking for when it comes to replacing Marcell Ozuna?

The recent spark that Hilliard has brought to the plate and in the outfield offer a compelling argument to leave him in the lineup every day this season moving forward.
