Takeaways: Atlanta Braves complete sweep against the Minnesota Twins
The Atlanta Braves add another sweep to the 2023 season tally after they took care of business against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon, 3-0.
There were several bright spots to the afternoon, including a great start by Kolby Allard, the lineup continues to pop, and Atlanta's incredible June is almost complete.
Here are some takeaways from the action.
Kolby Allard was great
Allard was exceptional in his first start of the season. He struck out eight Twins batters in 4.2 innings before being pulled from the mound and being cheered by the fans in Truist Park.
It's been well-documented that Atlanta's arms have been battling injury and seeing Allard bring respectable heat to knock out four scoreless innings to help seal the sweep was a welcome surprise for the Atlanta Braves.
Also worth noting is his almost perfect first inning where he struck out all three batters in the first with 14 pitches. All three generated a swing-and-miss.
Here's a video of Braves pitcher Spencer Strider trying to cool off Allard after his hot start.
Michael Harris continues to rake
There are few players in all of baseball playing better than Michael Harris right now. Another day, another multiple-hit performance.
In his last 15 games, he's hitting a ridiculous .464 from the plate and isn't showing any signs of slowing down. His production from the ninth position in the lineup is what is making this Braves lineup so special.
His defensive play is also exactly what you want to see from the young outfielder.
The Braves have been the team of the Summer
June has been an incredible month for the Atlanta Braves. They are 20-4 in the month and have done it against some tough teams. Before taking the series against the red-hot Reds, they started the month off against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
They'll look to finish the month off strong with an important game against the Miami Marlins on Friday night. Every win against the Marlins will widen the gap between the Braves and everyone else in the NL East standings.
What's next?
The Atlanta Braves will get an off day before hosting the Miami Marlins on Friday night.
First pitch for the series is at 7:20 ET. The game broadcast, with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin, is available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports South and is available on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
