Takeaways: Atlanta wins seventh straight game, tops Nationals

Some timely home runs helped Atlanta extend the win streak to seven.

The Atlanta Braves have grown accustomed to needing some dramatic comebacks in order to win the game during this current win streak but on Saturday, that wasn't needed. After Marcell Ozuna crushed a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Braves a 3-1 lead, they never looked back as the Braves beats the Nationals 6-4.

The Braves are the first team to reach 40 wins in the National League with this result.

Let's look at a few takeaways from the action.

The Braves keep winning in the NL East

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

After clinching a series win against Washington before going for the sweep tomorrow, it's been impressive what all they've been able to do against their division this season.

In fact, they haven't lost a series against an NL East team this season. They did tie a four-game series against the Phillies.

3/30-4/2: 2-1 @Washington
4/24-4/27: 3-1 vs Miami
4/28-4/30: 2-1 @ New York
5/2-5/4: 3-0 @ Miami
5/25-5/28: 2-2 vs Philadelphia
6/6-6/8: 3-0 vs New York
6/9-6/10: 2-0 vs Washington

A solid way to keep leading in the division.

Jared Shuster did enough

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The 24-year-old has been asked to do more than the Braves would like this season due to the nature of injuries. On Saturday, Shuster showed what many thought we would see when he was competing for the fifth pitcher spot in spring training earlier this year.

Shuster pitched 5.0 innings and did not record a strikeout. He gave up eight hits and three runs. Regardless, he used the solid defense behind him to limit runs and did enough to pick up the third win of the season for the young pitcher.

Ronald Acuña keeps being great

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Acuña started this game red-hot. He got on base via a double with his first at-bat and would eventually score thanks to multiple sacrifice flies to give Atlanta an early lead.

In the second inning, he blasts a baseball into the seats to score two more. This was his 13th of the season.

He's one of four Braves to have 13 home runs on the season. He and Ozuna both have 13. Ozzie Albies has 14. Matt Olson leads all Braves with 17.

Acuña added another double in the seventh to score Kevin Pillar.
