Brian Snitker gives positive injury updates on Max Fried & Kyle Wright
Prior to Thursday night's game against the Colorado Rockies, Braves manager Brian Snitker gave injury updates for injured Braves pitchers Kyle Wright and Max Fried.
Fried, who has been on the IL for a forearm strain since May 7th with a forearm strain, was cleared to begin a throwing program on May 24th and has now progressed to throwing off of a mound, per pool reports.
Fried's work is characterized as "short box" sessions, where you are throwing off a mound but the catcher isn't at the full 60 feet, but closer and standing. It's the interim step before a standard bullpen session, which would then be followed by facing hitters in live batting practice and then finally a minor league rehab assignment.
Fried is, as of now, still projected to be activated sometime soon after the All-Star Break, assuming every step in the process happens without re-injury or issue.
Fried initially went to the IL after his Opening Day start against Washington was cut short for a strained hamstring. He returned for four more starts before going on the IL with the forearm issue. On the season, he's 2-1 in his five starts with a 2.08 ERA and twenty-five strikeouts in his twenty-six innings.
Wright was just cleared by the doctors to begin throwing, which is a notable step for his return from the injured list from a sore shoulder that's been bothering him since the end of last season.
Wright, a season after winning a MLB-best twenty-one games, never got back to form this year. He started the season on the IL, and made five starts, with a 0-1 record and 5.79 ERA, before going immediately on the 60-Day IL with the shoulder issue. He's expected back late in August.
