DraftKings names Mookie Betts the new National League MVP favorite, passing Ronald Acuña Jr
We've watched Ronald Acuña Jr dazzle in every possible way this season - on the basepaths, at the plate, and with the arm in right field - and he's been seen as the favorite for the National League MVP all season because of it.
As of Monday morning, he leads all of MLB in runs (115), stolen bases (59, in 71 tries), and was the #1 vote-getter in all of baseball for the All Star Game. Batting .330/.413/.562, he's hitting career marks in many statistical categories and has been the catalyst for the record-setting Braves offense.
Despite being on track for the only 35-70 season in MLB history, there's some folks in baseball who think there's another right fielder is more deserving of the award - Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Betts, who has surged in August with a .464/.514/.814 slash line to bring his season numbers to .315/.407/.611, has jumped Acuña on DraftKings and now sits at -130 odds to win the MVP, with Acuña falling back to +115.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have the full-season consistency of Acuña Jr. (who has had an OPS over .900 in every single month of the season) that's played every game of the season over a talented but slightly less consistent Betts (OPS under .800 to open the season) who has missed some time this season, but that's just me.
What do you think? Should Ronald Acuña Jr still be the favorite for NL MVP, or does Mookie Betts deserve to be the betting favorite?
