Is the Marcell Ozuna benching going to continue versus the Mets?

Marcell Ozuna was benched in Sunday's win against Arizona.

According to Braves manager Brian Snitker, Marcell Ozuna, the designated hitter for the Atlanta Braves, was taken out of Sunday's game versus the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a lack of effort after hitting a deep drive to center field.

The incident occurred during the fourth inning of the Braves 8-5 triumph when Ozuna connected with a pitch from Arizona pitcher Zac Gallen, sending it deep to center. However, instead of running immediately after making contact, Ozuna remained at home plate, observing the ball's trajectory. As a result, the ball hit an overhang just below the 25" home run line, resulting in a 415-foot single. Subsequently, manager Snitker decided to replace Ozuna with Sean Murphy in the sixth inning, who unfortunately went 0-for-3 for the remainder of the game.

"I guarantee he feels worse than I do for having to take him out," Snitker said of Ozuna after the game.

Ozuna has had an up-and-down season. After starting the season as one of the worst hitters in baseball, he was remarkable during the month of May.

It will be interesting to see where Ozuna is in the lineup in Atlanta's battle with the New York Mets on Tuesday after the Braves enjoy their off day. The Braves have other options to put at designated hitter and Snitker could really send a message to the veteran.
