Lineup, how to watch Atlanta's Saturday evening matchup with the San Francisco Giants
The Atlanta Braves opened Alumni Weekend with a bang, defeating the San Francisco Giants 4-0 on Friday night in Truist Park to secure their third consecutive shutout. The Braves have not allowed a run since around 9:00 on Monday evening - after a ninth-inning run by the New York Yankees, Atlanta's thrown three consecutive shutouts, notching 28 consecutive scoreless innings in that time period.
Atlanta's aiming for the early series victory on an Alumni Weekend where they're adding two to the Braves Hall of Fame, including Fred Tenney (posthumously) and Rico Carty.
Lineup for the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, August 19th
Here's how the Braves will line up for the contest:
Atlanta's sticking with the usual suspects in this one, with Michael Harris II batting 2nd behind Ronald Acuña Jr, Travis d'Arnaud rotating in behind the plate in the #7 spot, and Nicky Lopez remaining as the primary 2nd base option in the absence of Ozzie Albies, batting 9th.
Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants on Saturday, August 19th
Starting for Atlanta is RHP Yonny Chirinos. Although the Braves are 3-1 in Chirinos’ starts, he has given up 19 runs on 26 hits and six walks to 18 Ks in four games. He hasn’t gotten past the fifth inning, and he has left the game before completing the fifth inning twice, which seems to be the mark the Braves want from him. If he doesn’t produce in this game, his days in Atlanta might be over.
On the other hand, San Francisco's Logan Webb is coming off both his best season in 2022 (2.90 ERA, .240 OBA) and his best start of this season last time out. Facing one of baseball’s best lineups in the Rangers, he went 8.2 innings, allowing a sole run on six hits and a walk and six Ks. He has his lowest ever walk percentage (4%) and opponent OBP (.279) in his fifth season. No Braves hitter has been particularly successful in a meaningful sample - Michael Harris Harris is 2-2 lifetime against Webb - although Matt Olson (3-12, HR, 3 RBIs) and Austin Riley (4-11) are closest.
