Lineup, how to watch Atlanta's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates
Atlanta's bullpen is worn out.
Both Spencer Strider and Max Fried had to leave their starts early this week, and so the relievers have covered a lot of innings. The "guidelines" suggest either a workload of 35 pitches or back-to-back outings meaning a reliever needs to be "down" that day - well, that's some bad news if you're the Atlanta Braves.
As you can see, Atlanta's pen projects to only have three relievers available today, and none of the usual go-to high leverage arms amongst those. My expectation would be that Yates would handle a save situation, although AJ Minter's probably available in a "break glass in case of emergency" scenario. Heading into a weekend where Atlanta's playing four games in three days in New York, it's a potential recipe for disaster.
Lineup for the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, August 10th
Here's how the Braves will line up for the contest: Tr
Travis d'Arnaud rotates in behind the plate for Sean Murphy, and Kevin Pillar gets the start in place of Eddie Rosario. Pillar's batting 8th, so that moves Orlando Arcia up into Rosario's typical #7 spot in the lineup.
Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, August 10th
Starting for Atlanta is RHP Bryce Elder. 8-3 with a 3.43 ERA in his 22 starts this season, Elder's struck out 92 in his 126 innings pitched this season. His performance has varied wildly across his last five starts, though: In two of those starts (both Braves victories), he went six or more innings with four hits each and a total of three runs allowed, striking out five and walking just two. In the other three starts, he combined for 21 runs (17 earned) on eight walks and twenty hits in just 10.1 innings, all Braves losses. Which Bryce Elder do we see today? Hopefully it's one that beat Milwaukee twice.
Opposing the Braves is LHP Bailey Falter. Opening the season as a member of the Phillies, he was traded at the deadline for infielder Rodolfo Castro. He's 0-7 with a 4.87 ERA on the season across nine games (eight starts), although his first start for the Pirates was four innings of six hit, one run ball against Milwaukee with one walk and two strikeouts in a no-decision. Several Braves have limited experience against Falter, although only Michael Harris (2-4, HR, 2 RBIs) has taken him deep.
