Matt Olson sets Braves franchise single-season RBI record in 1st inning against Cubs

The Braves first baseman picked up his 136th RBI of the season thanks to a 1st inning homer, passing Eddie Mathews for most in franchise history

Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson set a modern-era franchise record with his 136th RBI, picked up off of Cubs starter Marcus Stroman in the 1st inning on Thursday night's game.

Olson passed Braves great Eddie Mathews for the modern-era record; Mathews had 135 RBIs for the 1953 Milwaukee Braves.

Olson's homer was Atlanta's 47th in the first inning this season, which is a new MLB record. It's also the first of the season that Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman gave up in the first inning.

The homer is Olson's 54th of the season, which leads all of baseball. After the hit, the Braves are slugging .501 as a team, which would be the highest single-season mark in MLB history were it to hold through next Sunday.

The Braves are up 2-1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning, threatening to add more runs onto the ledger of Stroman.
