Takeaways: Braves lose game two vs Pirates, 8-4

Atlanta's offense couldn't get going early and the Braves drop game two of the series with the Pirates.

Atlanta's offense couldn't get going early and the Braves drop game two of the series with the Pirates, 8-4.

Here are some takeaways from tonight's game.

Braves couldn't cash in on hits

Atlanta had 12 hits and two walks but only saw four men cross home plate.

Last night was a focus on small ball for the Braves, and they saw more of it tonight - it just simply wasn't enough vs the Pirates, who had a pair of long bombs in this contest.

Dylan Dodd did not have a solid outing

Dodd went four innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. He had two strikes and three walks.

Once the Braves get outside their top three starters, things get iffy. Dodd didn't have the stuff to keep the Pirates at bay tonight.

Atlanta's struggles with Pittsburgh

The Braves now fall to 3-3 on the season against the Pirates.

While Atlanta sports an impressive 92-49 record, they've struggled against some bad teams this season. Losing at home to a sub-.500 team isn't ever a good look, but the Pirates are arguably one of the better ones in the league.

What's next?

The Braves will enter game two of the series vs the Pirates tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. ET. Neither staring pitcher has been announced for the rubber match. The game will be televised on Bally Sports Southeast.
