Takeaways from Atlanta's series-tying victory against the New York Mets on Tuesday night
The Atlanta Braves used some well-timed longballs and dominant relief pitching to secure a 3-2 series-tying win against the New York Mets in Truist Park on Tuesday night. Here's what you need to know from the contest:
Bryce Elder is...fixed?
It's been one of those kind of seasons for Braves starter Bryce Elder.
He opened the year on an absolute tear, getting named to his first career All-Star team after finishing the first half of the season with a 7-2 record and 2.97 ERA.
But after the All-Star Break, the sinkerballer took a step back in his performance, putting up a 5.06 ERA in his six starts after the break. Three of those starts were five innings or less, with one of them ending in the 3rd after the Diamondbacks put up five runs on seven hits in just 2.2 innings.
But this now makes two consecutive good outings for Elder, with last week's seven-inning scoreless start against the Yankees being followed by tonight's two hit, one run outing. Elder pitched into the sixth, striking out three and expertly navigating around traffic to leave the game with a lead.
Is Elder fixed, or are the New York teams just bad? He tentatively lines up for a start next week in Colorado against the Rockies, so maybe we'll get clarity in the clear air of Coors Field.
Marcell Ozuna: So hot right now
The Big Bear made his presence known against the Mets. A night after clubbing over 850 feet of home runs against the Mets in a narrow Braves loss, Marcell Ozuna went 3-3 tonight, scoring two runs and finishing a triple shy of a cycle. He's now hitting .522 over the last seven days with 6 RBIs and 7 runs, and .315/.390/.562 in the month of August.
Quite the turnaround from "DFA HIM" when he was batting .083 in the end of April, huh?
Eddie Rosario continues his NL Player of the Week winning ways
In his first game in the lineup since being named NL Player of the Week, Eddie Rosario continued to shine. The left fielder went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, a run scored, and even reached base on a strikeout when the ball passed young catcher Francisco Alvarez.
But that wasn't even the most impressive moment of the night from Eddie.
Rosario opened the night with an incredibly high degree of difficulty catch, robbing Francisco Lindor of at least two bases in the 1st inning.
For two guys that were maligned earlier in the season for not producing, they're both showing that when they're hot, they're as good as anyone on the roster.
What's next for the Atlanta Braves?
Atlanta looks to take the series in the finale tomorrow night in Truist Park. Charlie Morton's on the bump, facing off with Mets lefty Jose Quintana. It's a sequel of the "Legends Booth", with the 7:20 PM ET broadcast being helmed by Jeff Francoeur, John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Chipper Jones and available on Bally Sports South.
