WATCH: Matt Olson hits his 40th home run of the season to tie Shohei Ohtani for the MLB lead
Matt Olson murdered a baseball.
The Braves first baseman worked an nine pitch at-bat, fouling off multiple fastballs from Pirates starter Bailey Falter, before getting a slider that hung high in the zone.
Olson went up and got it, sending it to dead-center at 107.3 mph off the bat and depositing it 427 feet away, inside the decorative "Pirates" bushes in the batter's eye to give Atlanta a 3-0 lead.
The home run, Olson's 40th of the season, ties the Angels' Shohei Ohtani for the MLB lead. It's also a new career high for Olson, who previously hit 39 homers in the 2021 season, his last in Oakland.
Atlanta continued the scoring with a Travis d'Arnaud single and then a Marcell Ozuna double, with the catcher Travis putting his head down and not only scoring from 1st base on the double, but doing it without a throw.
The Braves currently lead the Pirates 4-0 in the 3rd inning of the series finale, looking to secure the 3-1 series win before they head to New York for four games this weekend against the Mets.
