WATCH: Matt Olson hits his 43rd bomb in the 8th inning to narrow the Mets lead in the series finale
The Atlanta Braves spent most of this series finale against the New York Mets in Citi Field stuck in an unfamiliar position: losing
New York jumped on Braves starter Yonny Chirinos for six runs in the 5th inning and had a 7-4 lead late in this one, hoping to salvage at least one of this weekend's four games.
Matt Olson had other ideas.
With Austin Riley on 2nd base after a one-out double, Olson got a 2-1 sinker from lefty reliever Brooks Raley and did NOT miss it. Olson got it at 109.5 mph off the bat, sending it 455 feet to right-center field to bring in Riley and narrow the Mets lead to just one run.
Olson, who struggled mightily early in the season against lefties, now has a .851 OPS off of southpaws and is on pace for 60 home runs this season. He's currently at 43, which is already a career high, surpassing 2021's 39.
Atlanta's trying to get that game-tying run here in the top of the 8th, and the Mets are making another pitching change to try and hold them off.
