WATCH: Newest Brave AJ Smith-Shawver studies under Professor Uncle Jesse

The 20-year-old rookie learns from Baseball Yoda.

In what was absolutely not a coincidence, AJ Smith-Shawver, somewhat shockingly called up to the big league club today just two years removed from playing high school ball in Texas, was seated next to Jesse Chavez in the Braves' bullpen tonight.

Chavez, 39, began his major league career in 2008, when Smith-Shawver was five years old. Since then, Uncle Jesse has pitched for the Pirates, Royals, Blue Jays, Athletics, Dodgers, Angels, Rangers, Cubs, and Braves, making multiple stops with five of those clubs. He's on his fourth different stint with the Braves. He was drafted (twice!) before Smith-Shawver was even born.

So, yes, long story, short, the young Padawan has much to learn from the Jesse and his sunglasses. We'll see if AJSS puts any of this knowledge into action when he makes his major league debut in the coming days.

Tonight's game is currently tied 1-1. The game broadcast, with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin, is available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports South and is available on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
